The belt of northern hilly land in the province of Gorizia is known as The Collio.  This territory which is highly suited to fine wine growing extends along the border with Slovenia and develops almost continually along an ideal route from East to West, presenting gentle hills with large surface areas of favourably located south facing land.  The climate is particularly mild and temperate, in fact the closeness of the Julian Prealps form an efficient shelter against cold winds and the Adriatic contributes in limiting day-night temperature fluctuations;  The terrain is made up of layers of marl and sandstone.  Since ancient times, these environmental factors have favoured vine cultivation in this small hilly corner of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Of all the wines produced here, the highly perfumed white wines particularly stand out.
